New build timber frame home - Bow Brickhill
A long-standing client wanted to design and build a single-storey barn conversion for their retirement. KIM provided both design and build advice, liaising with various consultants to ensure the client brief was met.
The rural location required new utility connections and works to create a driveway and hard standing to the new building. This was one of the first homes we delivered with an air source heat pump in place of a traditional boiler with exceptional thermal insulation and underfloor heating.
Extension and reconfiguration of family home - Astwood
Originally designed and built in 1996/7 this family home was a new build project designed to replicate a barn conversion. Located between an old school house and a 13th century public house provided challenges to achieve planning and during the build phase along with the removal of a huge weeping willow in the centre of the site.
KIM have subsequently carried out 2 extensions to the same property, joining up the garage and reconfiguring the ground floor to create a home office and extending to provide a garden room and additional bedroom. More recently the old wooden doors and windows have been replaced with aluminium frames to improve the acoustic and thermal performance of the building prior to upgrading the old heating system from an oil-fired boiler to an air source heat pump. Further works are planned to re-insulate the roof and install solar panels and batteries for energy storage. Additional garden storage rooms and a greenhouse have also been installed.
Reconfiguration and extension of canal-side cottage - Weedon
Located next to the Grand Union Canal, this home was lovingly restored, extended and upgraded to provide a contemporary home with various phases taking place over a number of years. Works included internal reconfiguration and extension, new glass balustrade and external terraces at first floor level to take advantage of the views over the canal.
